About the role
We are a global team of innovators and pioneers dedicated to shaping the future of observability. At New Relic, we build an intelligent platform that empowers companies to thrive in an AI-first world by giving them unparalleled insight into their complex systems. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we're looking for passionate people to join our mission. If you're ready to help the world's best companies optimize their digital applications, we invite you to explore a career with us!
Your opportunity
New Relic gives engineering teams real-time insight into their software and infrastructure, so they can find and fix problems fast. The Infra Data Pipeline team builds and runs the pipeline that brings infrastructure data into New Relic: metadata, metrics and inventory from our infrastructure agents and cloud integrations. If that pipeline is slow or down, our customers notice.
As a Software Engineer 1 on the team, you will own services in production from your first months: you'll build them, deploy them, monitor them and support them. You'll work with Java, Go, Kafka, Kubernetes and AWS alongside engineers in India and Spain, and grow your skills in large-scale observability systems.
What you'll do
- Run services in production: within your first months, deploy, monitor and support the services you own, and join the on-call rotation.
- Become the owner of a pipeline component: learn it end-to-end, present its architecture to the team, and be the first responder for its incidents and support requests.
- Deliver roadmap work end-to-end: take features from design through deployment and monitoring, and ship them to production every quarter.
- Keep the pipeline healthy: create the alerts and dashboards for your services, take part in incident response and retrospectives, and reduce security and technical debt on what you own.
- Share what you learn: write runbooks and design notes, and review your teammates' code.
This role requires
-
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical software engineering experience.
- Ability to write, test and debug backend code in Java, Go or another object-oriented language, and willingness to work primarily in Java and Go.
- Hands-on experience shipping and running code in a real environment, through professional work, internships or substantial projects (for example: deploying it, monitoring it, fixing it when it breaks).
