HOW YOU'LL MAKE IMPACT

You’ll design and build backend services that power Airwallex’s global financial platform, with a focus on Spend and Accounting. You’ll work on services that help customers track, reconcile and account for spend transactions, ensuring financial data is accurate, reliable and compliant.

You’ll own features end to end, from technical design and implementation through to production operation, while helping shape the long-term architecture of our backend systems. You’ll partner closely with Product, Infrastructure and other Engineering teams, and help raise the engineering bar through high-quality code, thoughtful technical decisions and mentorship.

• Design and build scalable, secure backend services that support Spend and Accounting workflows.
• Shape the long-term architecture of backend systems that help customers track, reconcile and account for spend transactions.
• Deliver features from technical design and implementation through to reliable production operation.
• Improve system reliability, maintainability and observability through high-quality code and sound engineering practices.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure and Engineering teams to deliver accurate, reliable and compliant financial experiences.
• Raise the engineering bar through technical mentorship and a strong focus on code quality.

You’ll work from our Melbourne office on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Essentials

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience designing and building backend systems and APIs in production.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Java, Kotlin, Go or Python.
• Solid understanding of REST API design and backend frameworks, such as Spring Boot.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, such as AWS or GCP, and container orchestration, such as Kubernetes.
• A strong focus on performance, reliability and code quality.

Preferred

• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools, such as Grafana, Prometheus or Splunk.

The Spend team builds Airwallex's financial operating layer for modern businesses, bringing together corporate cards, expenses, bills, and procurement on top of our accounts, payments, and issuing infrastructure. We're building AI that makes real decisions about expenses, policies, and payments, aiming to get 95%+ of submissions down to one click, while every workflow still has to hold up across multi-entity businesses, currencies, and audit trails.
